Norad’s Visit to Quang Ninh

On 23 September, 2023 – Norad’s representative visited Ha Long City for 2 projects which are sponsored by Norad. The first stop was the EPPIC Shop which is under Ending Plastic Pollution Innovation Challenge (EPPIC) in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh Province. The EPPIC Shop is to showcase the innovations to tackle plastic pollution that are the finalists and the winners of EPPIC. At the shop, Norad discussed with the shopkeeper the regular activities of EPPIC Shop in promoting alternative materials for commercial use in Ha Long.

Norad also examined the results of the DWP5C Project, which encompasses various waste management practices, including composting, waste classification at the source, and efficient waste collection. Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, a representative of Quang Ninh Farmer’s Union, presented the key achievements and milestones of this transformative endeavor.

As a province famous for its breathtaking coastline and majestic Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh has been striving to tankle the environmental impact of tourism. Norad’s visit included a boat tour that highlighted Quang Ninh’s commitment to eco-tourism. This boat tour was part of Quang Ninh’s ongoing efforts to reduce single-use plastic in tourist areas. By providing alternatives and raising awareness, Quang Ninh aims to preserve the pristine beauty of its natural wonders for generations to come. This highlights the significance of international cooperation in achieving sustainability goals.

Furthermore, Mr. Nguyen Tien Thanh, representing the governmental agency responsible for managing Ha Long Bay, shared a remarkable achievement: a 90% reduction in plastic waste in tourist areas after implementing the projects integrated with the province’s activities. This inspiring success story demonstrates the positive impact of coordinated efforts and serves as a beacon of hope for environmental preservation worldwide.
