Plastic Pollution Challenge
Agrabah Ventures is addressing economic instability and environmental degradation in coastal communities by establishing a sustainable seaweed farming value chain. This initiative aims to improve the livelihoods of local farmers through eco-friendly practices while leveraging seaweed’s natural carbon sequestration abilities. The project will create new economic opportunities by building partnerships with buyers and financial institutions, scaling up operations, and fostering sustainable, market-driven practices. ABIC funding will support the pilot implementation, including site selection, infrastructure setup, farmer training, performance monitoring, and developing a scaling-up strategy. In the next six months, Agrabah will launch a pilot program, setting up a sustainable seaweed nursery, training 1,000 farmers in sustainable cultivation, and deploying a traceability platform to track production. In two years, the initiative will scale to multiple coastal communities, with over 5,000 farmers participating. The expanded traceability platform will monitor production, income, and environmental impact, while farmers generate additional revenue from seaweed sales and carbon credits, creating a self-sustaining ecosystem that promotes ecological balance and economic resilience across the region.
