Plastic Pollution Challenge

Berikan Protein Initiative is a socio-preneurship project in Indonesia designed to combat malnutrition and stunting by producing Fish Protein Hydrolysate (FPH) from low-value fish. By involving the wives of local fishermen in the production of FPH-fortified food products under the brand “Forayya,” the initiative addresses nutritional deficiencies and empowers fisherwomen with entrepreneurship training. These products, sold on e-commerce platforms like Tokopedia and Shopee, provide nutritional benefits and a new income stream for coastal families. The holistic approach strengthens the entire value chain, from fish processing to digital marketing, and has the potential to transform coastal communities by promoting sustainable fishing practices and economic empowerment. In the next six months, the focus will be on equipping coastal women in Indramayu with essential skills in fish processing, small business management, and financial literacy, enabling them to start generating supplemental income for their families. Looking forward to the next two years, the initiative envisions these women running self-sustaining businesses, producing a variety of high-protein, environmentally friendly products. The model will be recognized as a scalable economic empowerment and nutritional improvement solution, helping reduce malnutrition and supporting women’s economic independence across Indonesia’s coastal regions.
