Plastic Pollution Challenge
EcoSun addresses environmental and economic challenges along the Mekong River by introducing solar-powered ecotourism boats for dolphin-watching tours. These eco-friendly alternatives replace gasoline-powered boats, significantly reducing noise, air, and water pollution and attracting ecotourists while reducing the cost of fuel, economically benefiting the local community. The project focuses on protecting the endangered Irrawaddy dolphins and creating sustainable economic opportunities for local communities. Initial funding will be used to prototype a solar-powered boat and implement the conversion of 15 existing gasoline-powered boats. EcoSun plans to deploy 15 solar-powered longtail boats for dolphin-watching tours in the next six months, demonstrating how solar energy can transform ecotourism. Within two years, EcoSun envisions this innovation being adopted across various river environments, revolutionizing the ecotourism sector and promoting sustainable practices in the region.
