Plastic Pollution Challenge

The National University of Laos is developing the Environmental Impact Monitoring System (EIMS) to address the environmental effects of industrial activities near the Mekong River, especially in special economic zones. Using IoT technology, EIMS monitors key environmental parameters like water, air, and soil quality and noise levels, providing real-time data to help companies mitigate negative environmental impacts and comply with regulations. This system promotes sustainable industrial practices and has potential applications across Laos’ growing industrial sectors. The ABIC funding will support research, equipment procurement, prototype development, and testing at industrial sites. In the next six months, the project will focus on finalizing system development, conducting research, collecting data, and testing the prototype at one company. Over the next two years, the goal is to continually update the system and expand its use across other industries, including mining and special economic zones, fostering broader environmental compliance and sustainability.
