Plastic Pollution Challenge
PUFFER’s Carbon Emission Bioreactor (CEB) technology addresses environmental challenges in aquaculture by using shrimp pond wastewater to cultivate microalgae. This system reduces seawater pollution and CO2 emissions and produces high-protein microalgae biomass as a sustainable alternative to conventional livestock feed. The bioreactor leverages advanced venturi and vortex technologies for efficient cultivation, with plans to integrate IoT and AI for automation. PUFFER contributes to the blue economy by promoting sustainable practices and creating economic opportunities for coastal communities. ABIC funding will support the system’s design, construction, and installation, the development of a monitoring app, and training for local operators. In the next six months, PUFFER will deploy its system at a fish farm in the coastal community, demonstrating both environmental and economic benefits. Over the next two years, the goal is to expand its use throughout Indonesia’s aquaculture sector, positioning PUFFER as a key solution for sustainable aquaculture practices.
