The Aquaculture Group

The Aquaculture Group, in collaboration with a global non-governmental organization Climate Foundation, is scaling up a seaweed-derived biostimulant to enhance both seaweed and land agriculture productivity. The biostimulant is designed to boost crop yields by 15-30% while reducing the reliance on chemical fertilizers by 20%, offering a sustainable solution to environmental challenges and creating economic opportunities for local communities. By establishing a biorefinery near seaweed sources, the project supports local processing, empowering farmers—especially women—by integrating them into the value chain. ABIC funding will be used to acquire machinery to double production capacity, relocate the factory closer to seaweed sources, and facilitate regulatory processes for commercial sales. In the next six months, the Aquaculture Group aims to achieve continuous production of BIGrow Biostimulant in Mindanao, supported by increased sales among farmers across various crops. Within two years, the project envisions expanding the use of locally-manufactured BIGrow Biostimulant across the Philippines and Indonesia, improving agricultural yields, addressing poverty, and fostering sustainable, community-driven practices that benefit both land and aquatic ecosystems.
