Plastic Pollution Challenge

Yayasan Sinergi Akuakultur Indonesia is transforming shrimp farm sludge into high-value organic fertilizer, addressing environmental challenges and creating economic opportunities. This initiative reduces water pollution by converting waste into nutrient-rich fertilizers for crops like chili peppers. It empowers coastal communities, particularly women, in the production and sale of fertilizer. The project fosters environmental stewardship and socio-economic development through pilot testing, the development of standard procedures, and community training. ABIC funding will support waste collection, fertilizer formulation, testing, crop trials, and training for sustainable practices. In the next six months, the focus will be on successfully delivering the pilot project, which includes eco-fertilizer production and initial crop trials. The aim of the next two years is to establish an institutional framework for eco-fertilizer production across farming clusters, integrating it into local and regional agricultural sectors with government support.
